A good crowd gathered in Colwyn Bay on Saturday 26th July to protest against the proposal by the Welsh Assembly government to kill badgers. Displaying colourful placards and banners and with some wearing badger face masks we met up outside the Welsh Assembly offices and then had a short procession to the promenade for a rally and speeches.

 The delight with which the news that Hilary Benn had rejected a badger cull soon turned sour with the news that Elin Jones from the Welsh Assembly still proposes to go ahead with a cull in Wales. Hilary Benn's decision was based on sound science, the results of a ten year study costing the tax payer £50 million which concluded that a cull of badgers would in the long run make a bad situation worse.

 
Elin Jones has based her decision to cull badgers on a three day review by non-expert former Government chief adviser Sir David King.

Despite the media attention surrounding one case of a vegan child with poor health, the facts support the case that a balanced vegan diet is extremely healthy. Perhaps the media should focus more on the many thousands of children who are obese and malnourished eating a very unhealthy omnivorous diet.

Today we have seen an investigation in the Independent into the British pig industry. Despite repeated claims that it has the highest welfare standards in the world investigators found squalor, filth, death and disease. Where the industry portrays pigs growing up outside with acres of space to roam, they found dead and dying piglets living in utterly barren, overcrowded pens.
